What is it with the City of Phoenix traffic engineers and left turns?
First of all, the left turn signals (when they even exist) operate before the rest of the traffic. This doesn’t make much sense, because people run red lights turning left when the light changes anyway. That’s a situation begging for accidents. Why not operate the left turn signals after the flow of traffic has stopped in both directions? It’s how they do it in Tucson, and it makes way more sense.
Also in Tucson, at lights where there are left turn signals, drivers always get an arrow, no matter if there is one car or a dozen waiting to turn left. But can Phoenix do that? Hell no. Apparently in the warped, obviously coked-out minds of Phoenix traffic engineers, one car waiting to turn left is not worthy of getting a left turn arrow. Sometimes even two cars are not worthy.
It’s no wonder there are so many collisions in this godforsaken hell hole.
