Eight years of Bush rule was horrific.  Incompetence, cronyism, lies, and hypocrisy not seen in this country for generations rightfully earned Dubya the title of Worst President ever.  The 2008 election showed that the country as a whole was not as blind as I’d begun to believe and was just as fed up as I; the American people had had enough of right wing Republican crap and wanted change.

Personally, I haven’t seen enough change since Obama took office, but I’m not willing to throw the baby out with the bath water just yet.  I am sorely disappointed with his performance based on his campaign promises and his apparent unwillingness to reverse many of the Bush/Cheney policies, but then I consider the alternative of a McCain/Palin administration and chills run down my spine.  Obama isn’t great, but at least can speak in complete sentences.

But since his inauguration, it seems every uneducated right wing lunatic, fundamentalist Neanderthal, unhinged homobigot and knuckle-dragging racist has crawled out of the woodwork and are now proudly, openly, calling for the the overthrow of the United States government.  Okay, maybe not all that openly, but all you have to do is listen to what they’re saying and you hear all the code words.  Forget the Party of NO; the Party of HATE is rising in this country and it seems law enforcement and the media (Liberal?  That’s a laugh!) is either oblivious has chosen to willfully ignore it.  While Armed militias, states’ talk of secession,  the anti-immigrant backlash and the whole “We are Living in the End Times” philosophy that has gripped the reptilian-brained evangelical community, are, when viewed individually, not a huge cause for alarm, when they come together—as they seem to be doing now, that gives me pause.

And it’s all because we have a black man in the White House.  It’s racism, pure and simple, fanned by the likes of Limbaugh, Hannity, and Beck, douchenozzles of the right who—if the unthinkable actually happens—will no doubt wring their hands and claim no responsibility for the violence their hate speech ignited.

So where had the Democratic party been during all this?  MIA, as usual.  I can’t even say the word “Democrat” these days without prefixing it with “Spineless.”  The difference between the two parties has never been clearer: Republicans are well-trained attack dogs; Democrats invertebrates (take your pick).  For whatever reason, they refuse to counter the attacks lobbed by the Republicans.  Do they think that by ignoring the ridiculous accusations, they’ll just be ignored by the electorate?  If that’s the case, not only are they spineless, but they’re also stupid.  No matter how ridiculous the claim, the more it’s repeated, eventually it will become “truth.”  “Obama is a Socialist/Fascist/Three-Headed Monster from Venus, Obama wasn’t born in the United States, Obama’s Health Care will kill your granny, Obama eats the brains out of living children for breakfast.” (Even though we all know that was Cheney’s favorite meal).  It’s all bullshit, but again the Democratic Party as a whole (with the notable exception of Alan Grayson) and the mainstream media refuses to call anyone on it.

What to do about this?  I really have no idea.  I’d like to hear your suggestions, because the past year has really highlighted the ugly underbelly of racism still running through parts of the American public and the appalling need for competent mental health counseling in this country.
