Sounds Familiar, Doesn't It?

Hitler's sales pitch to the German people was grounded in the idea that average German working people were victims and Hitler was their champion.

He claimed Jews, homosexuals, and socialists had "stabbed Germany in the back" by participating in negotiations for the Treaty of Versailles that imposed punitive conditions on the country, producing widespread poverty and an economic crisis.

If the German people were victims, Hitler told them, the villains were German minorities, promoting degeneracy like jazz and swing music, tolerance of homosexuality and transgender people, and the "international Jewish conspiracy."

Once the Nazis took power they banned books, outlawed drag shows and homosexuality, changed school curricula to remove mention of their atrocities in WWI, and rewrote election laws so they'd never again lose an election.

And the country isn't burning. At least not yet.

First true criminal elected.

Republicans could have avoided the embarrassment of Trump but they could not resist someone who fights for white collar criminals, wimpy misogynists/incels, insecure townies, sex predators, conspiracy bigots, idiots who say 'Democtrat Party', antisemites with uses 'globalists'/Soros in place of 'I dont understand this issue', and your basic unabashed racist.

[It's not that this slipped past me yesterday; we were hip-deep in moving and I only saw it when I briefly went online.]

The Germans didn't know what was coming. We do. And yet…30% of this country still embraces it. What does that say about humanity? I just don't understand.

And somehow, this also seems appropriate to post in this context…

Quote of the Day

Marjorie Taylor Green said she would have brought guns to the Capitol on January 6. She is now the face of the Republican Party. Donald Trump has unearthed and given voice to the ugliest part of America." ~ Rob Reiner

Only the GOP Celebrates Political Violence

David Frum:

But if both Republicans and Democrats, left and right, suffer political violence, the same cannot be said of those who celebrate political violence. That's not a "both sides" affair in 2020s America.

You don't see Democratic House members wielding weapons in videos and threatening to shoot candidates who want to cut capital-gains taxes or slow the growth of Medicare. Democratic candidates for Senate do not post video fantasies of hunting and executing political rivals, or of using a firearm to discipline their children's romantic partners. It's not because of Democratic members that Speaker Nancy Pelosi installed metal detectors to bar firearms from the floor of the House. No Democratic equivalent exists of Donald Trump, who regularly praises and encourages violence as a normal tool of politics, most recently against his own party's Senate leader, Mitch McConnell. As the formerly Trump-leaning Wall Street Journal editorialized on October 2: "It's all too easy to imagine some fanatic taking Mr. Trump seriously and literally, and attempting to kill Mr. McConnell. Many supporters took Mr. Trump's rhetoric about former Vice President Mike Penceall too seriously on Jan. 6."

Republicans categorically need to lose definitively and unquestionably on November 8th.

And now that Brandon is actually "going," they're pissed. There's no pleasing theses traitorous insurrectionists…
