Such a Cute Lil’ Nugget!

Another one added to the collection. (Ben has his own collections, so we’re good here.)

I ordered this from shopgoodwill.com, as “untested.” What attracted me to it was the fact that the case hadn’t yellowed in relation to the clasp unlike so many of these units that show up on eBay. And that S2 styling! For a couple dollars more than the price of a fast-food lunch I figured it was worth the risk, and if it didn’t work I could put the hours I’ve spent watching YouTube videos on how to service these things to use. Turns out I didn’t need to. It works perfectly.

So of course I had to pop the top panel off the base and peek inside!

Yes, I am a geek.

This is rapidly becoming my favorite of the collection.

Not Belittling Anyone Who Still Uses an AOL Email Account, But…

Always the Victim, Part One Million…

Everything about Donald Trump and his campaign keeps getting weirder. That’s turning out to be true even when it comes to scandals in which Trump is the apparent victim. Someone apparently hacked into the Trump 2024 campaign and stole internal campaign documents and sent them to Politico. The Trump campaign is suggesting that Iran was behind it. But Politico says that it received the documents from someone with an aol.com email address.

We’re not in any way making fun of AOL email. There are plenty of people who have kept their AOL email address around for thirty years, and if anything it points to someone who was an internet early adopter. But what hacker uses their AOL personal email address to send hacked documents to a major news outlet? We’re not exactly talking about high level espionage here.

Yet the Donald Trump campaign wants us to believe that the government of Iran hacked into the campaign and then sent stolen documents to Politico using an aol.com email address. Uh, no. This sounds like the work of an amateur low level hacker at best. If anything it suggests that the Trump 2024 campaign is rinky dink enough to get hacked by just about anyone. They’re just so weird.

It would’ve been hilarious if Beetlejuice had been engraved on that headstone, but then I realized over a decade separated the two films…

Remembering Our Rich Cinematic Drag History

Lifted from a posting on Tumblr…

Not like that film was a one-off either.

I would like to add The Birdcage (1996) to this list of drag queen movies (mind you, it’s based on La Cage Aux Folles, a French stage play from 1973 that was later made into a 1978 film*).

Which starred Nathan Lane as a drag queen just two years after he had voice Pumba in The Lion King:

And we ESPECIALLY need to remember Victor Victoria from 1982 (during the REAGAN administration), an absolutely joyful film is SET IN THE 1930S and stars everyone’s favorite curtain-sewing nanny as a struggling soprano who decides to pretend to be a boy doing drag (DOUBLE THE DRAG FOR YOUR MONEY). I mean look at this photo:

* I love the Birdcage, but to this day I think the original La Cage still outshines it for the sheer comedic timing of the leads.
