Thirty Six Years

Kent Kelly 15 November 1955 – 24 June 1987

I guess I'm kind of weird in that in addition to keeping friends' and family's birthdays in my calendar, I also keep note of their passing. (It probably stems from having lost so many to the ravages of AIDS in the 80s and 90s.) Today I noticed it's been thirty six years—thirty six years—since my friend and mentor Kent Kelly departed this planet.

I was set to raise a glass and wax poetic about what Kent meant to me and how he influenced my life, but realized I'd already written extensively of our quirky relationship  several years ago, so if you're interested go check that out. I guess that only leaves the raising of the glass and maybe posting a couple additional pix…

Giorgio & Chris: Love's in You, Love's in Me (1978)

Never one of my favorites, but looked back upon fondly, especially Burning the Midnight Oil.

I get the totally unsubstantiated feeling that Giorgio was fucking Chris at the time and was hoping to make her the next Donna Summer. Unfortunately, Chris didn't possess the vocal talent of Summer and this is why I think this was a one-off album…

Many of You Owe Hillary an Apology

He never belonged here.

He was never emotionally, intellectually, or moral deserving of the presidency.

And for whatever reason, you chose incorrectly.

More than that, you refuse to admit that.

Hillary Clinton isn't perfect, but here's what I know:

    • She wouldn't have engaged in middle of the night, all-caps social media rants.
    • She wouldn't have called Nazis and racists "fine people."
    • She wouldn't have played patty-cake with Vladimir Putin.
    • She wouldn't have publicly praised Kim Jong Um.
    • She wouldn't have emboldened racists to march through streets in the light of day.
    • She wouldn't have coddled the NRA in the wake of unrelenting mass shootings.
    • She wouldn't have tripped over herself for praise and credit and affirmation like some insecure middle schooler.
    • She wouldn't still be holding rallies in a desperate attempt to gather a choir of sycophants to shower her with adulation.
    • She wouldn't have attacked the integrity of the Free Press, the FBI, or the Judiciary.
    • She wouldn't have stumbled, shoved, and faked away moments of international diplomacy because she lacked basic knowledge of the issues or the ability to be decent.
    • She wouldn't have had a revolving door Cabinet filled with white supremacists, creationists, and flat-earthers.
    • She wouldn't have lied repeatedly, ignored science, and turned wearing masks into a tribal political statement.

Republicans: Don't Touch That Dial

From  MockPaperScissors:

Wingnuttia is outraged that private car companies making electric cars are not including AM radios. "How else is Possum Hollar gonna get their hate on?!" they demand:

The Guardian's Katie Thornton reports that Volkswagen and Mazda are joining Volvo, Tesla, BMW and Audi in excluding AM radio from their electric cars. They view it as a technical matter, while Turning Point USA's Charlie Kirk, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) and far-right radio host Mark Levin are saying it is a conspiracy against far-right talk radio…

Levin is furious, telling listeners, "They finally figured out how to attack conservative talk radio." Similarly, Kirk, on his radio show, claimed, "Whether they're doing this intentionally or not, the consequence will be.… an all-out attack on AM radio."

Cruz claims, "There's a reason big car companies were open to taking down AM radio.… Let's be clear: big business doesn't like things that are overwhelmingly conservative."

They really believe that car manufacturers are… woke? So what is behind this?

Thornton, in a report for The Guardian published on June 21, notes that some companies "have already dispensed with AM in their electric cars, because AM's already unpolished reception is subject to even more buzz, crackling."

"While some manufacturers have found workarounds for the interference," Thornton explains, "others appear to have decided that it's not worth the engineering expense."

So… a business decision. I thought Republicans hated central planning from the evil gubmint.
