The honeymoon with Denver is definitely over. At this point I am more than ready to go back to five months of 115° temps in Phoenix rather than spend one more day driving in snow. Hell, at this point I'd even be willing to move back to earthquake country rather than deal with this crap!
When my folks divorced, my mom moved back to Wisconsin where she was born and raised. She lasted exactly one winter before returning to Arizona. Now I know why. (And Denver winters are mild in comparison!)
Back in the 80s when my tribe relocated en masse to San Francisco, not all of us took to the City or embraced it the way I did. I could not understand how Lee—my best friend in the world—didn't love the place the way I did. Now I do. Some locations are a perfect match for your energy and some aren't. For me, Denver has proven itself to be in the latter category. I cannot wait to get the fuck out of here and away from the stupid-ass weather and the fucking insane drivers.
There is nothing about living here that I will miss. NOTHING.
Unfortunately, leaving Denver right now—as much as I would love to—is simply not an option. It will be three more years and three more fucking winters before we can leave. But rest assured that when that day comes and the truck is loaded and we're heading out of town, not a single fucking tear is going to be shed.
I know how you feel. I plan to return to the Southwest in a couple years. Duluth is a very beautiful place and I will miss my lake view, but I require age restricted living. The only way I could get that here is in what is basically a nursing home. Green Valley here I come!
Hi Carter, my husband and I are native to southern California. Although I 'grew up' in West Hollywood, we have lived here in Studio City for the past twenty years. Yes, this city suffers from being too popular and loved too much but a person who loves a good challenge can really fit right in. Oh, I love the subway, and people watching at Union Station. Nice to here from someone that does not live in another state. BTW, Marks blog is my fave, and Porncake blog, not as nasty as it sounds, is my fave.
One of the main reasons I love Los Angeles is because of the great weather. Having a 'beach shack' in north Malibu helps. If I ever had to move away I would live in San Diego. For weather, it is the best. But L.A. is a lot more fun. I am two miles from Universal Studios, City Walk, and four miles from West Hollywood. Today it will be 75 degrees and sunny. We could use a little rain.
Yes, Mike, today was perfection, yet tomorrow and Thursday will also be the same, or thereabouts.
LA definitely has changed so much for those who have not lived here or at least visited here in the past 10 years. I live in Sherman Oaks, meaning about 3-4 miles away.
Went downtown LA today on the subway, leaving my car at home. Will do so again next week for dinner with the local economic director of development for DTLA.
Not everything is perfect – we have way too many people moving here who absolutely LOVE being here after only one year. Construction boom cannot even keep up with the residential migration here.
But you can live a very quiet life if you choose, can go to the mountains, the beach, or both, on a single day's drive of less than an hour or two.
And plenty of healthcare-related jobs available all the time, especially at USC and UCLA.
