Using public transportation is good, as long as it doesn't take 3 hours to get where you want to go. I have been using it since May, and I don't really miss my car (except for the occasional road trip). In Duluth its cheaper to take the bus than to pay for parking. No free parking in the downtown area. You would think I live in a big city(not!!)
Another thing you can do, is take the receiver from an old-fashioned phone you would have at home, pull it out of your backpack and start having a conversation. Room to spread out guaranteed. LOL
You are right about the books. You may not read comics, but the DC Comics rebooted all of its books for the big screen. DC moved it's offices from NYC to LA prior and that was my first sign.
