  1. Also interesting regarding the Goldwater/Miller ticket in 1964 is that Barry had a gay son, aka Barry Jr., while William Miller, has a lesbian daughter, Stephanie Miller – maybe you've heard of her!
    So while the conservative movement got a ligitimate foothold in that election, the electorate gave 61% of the votes to LBJ with the Reps winning only 6 states, of course Arizona being one of them.
    Irony also that probably the most famous quote from that election was BG's quote regarding gays in the military – You don't have to be straight to shoot straight!!!

  2. I cried after reading this because I remember the 1964 elections and how many of us thought Barry Goldwater was a real nut job. However, congress, then, hashed things out and compromised which gave all of us some good legislation. Now we have people who do not understand government and their role when elected. It is not to sit collecting a salary and saying "no" to everything just so the president will not be reelected. This has wasted 4 years at a time when the country needed good people to get us out of this financial mess. Every time I read a Barry quote, I realize how young and naive I was back then.
