Something Wicked This Way Comes

Oh god, I hope so!

I’m not sure how to proceed with this post—much less gather my thoughts into any kind of coherent narrative. Suffice to say that if you’re reading this I did manage to pull something together that isn’t utter crap. And if not…well, you’ll never know will you?

So…am I the only one? Am I the only one who,  for the past few months has  been feeling a sense of—for lack of a better word, dread? It feels like a storm is gathering on the horizon that promises to lay waste to everything we’ve come to hold near and dear; to alter what is perceived as reality itself.

Perhaps it stems from the constant onslaught of Trump-related news, too many late-night journeys down the dark corridors of YouTube and the general sense of malaise that started engulfing the nation with the arrival of COVID. It seems people are sick of being screwed over by corporations and a seemingly intractable Congress hell-bent on sending the country careening back to the 1950s and fulfilling the dark fantasies of the worst members of our society instead of actually representing the will of the people who put them in power and, you know, actually moving the country forward.

Then there are the obviously corrupt members of the Supreme Court, the are-they or are-they-not real revelations from the US military about UAPs/UFOs and just the constant firehose of bullshit we’re being force fed on a daily basis from the media.

It short, it seems like the rug is being pulled out from under us and a huge change is heading our way. So what is it? The unfettered rise of a Fourth Reich? DIsclosure that aliens walk among us and have been abducting humans and performing expeiments on them for at least the last 80 years with the government’s blessing in exchange for technology? The infamous “Fourth Turning”? The rise of Artificial Intelligence and humanity’s corresponding retreat into virtual reality?

Or is it just that I’m getting old and can’t keep up with the pace of change going on around us any more like I was able to 40 years ago.

To The Surprise of No One, Ron DeSantis Lies.

        • The LA Dodgers’ LGBTQ Pride Night turned controversial when an activist group that offended the religious right was invited.
        • Conservatives touted a video of a nearly empty stadium as a win, claiming they staged a successful boycott.
        • In reality, the game had higher-than-average attendance as religious groups protested outside.

Conservatives appear gleeful that they may have just scored another culture war win — this time, through Major League Baseball’s Los Angeles Dodgers.

But their claim to have successfully boycotted a Dodgers game for its LGBTQ Pride participation and guests — notably echoed by presidential candidate Ron DeSantis — appears to be false.

Leading up to the team’s 10th annual LGBTQ+ Pride Night, the Dodgers disinvited and then re-invited the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, a nonprofit “order of queer and trans nuns,” which some religious conservatives found to be offensive to Christianity and Catholicism.

“We have asked the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence to take their place on the field at our 10th annual LGBTQ+ Pride Night on June 16th,” the team said in its re-invitation statement shared on Twitter. “We are pleased to share that they have agreed to receive the gratitude of our collective communities for the lifesaving work that they have done tirelessly for decades.”

All conservatives can do is lie and threaten violence, because they know this country has rejected them.

Happy Juneteenth!

Guys, this is a big, eff’ing deal:

Archivist of the United States Dr. Colleen Shogan announced earlier today that the National Archives plans to place the Emancipation Proclamation on permanent display in the Rotunda of the National Archives Building in Washington, DC.

This puts The Emancipation Proclamation on the same footing as the other foundational documents: The Declaration of Independence, The Constitution, and The Bill of Rights:

“When President Abraham Lincoln issued the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1, 1863, he wrote that ‘all persons held as slaves within said designated States, and parts of States, are, and henceforward shall be free,’’’ Shogan quoted. “Although the full privileges of freedom were not immediately bestowed upon all Americans with Lincoln’s order, I am proud that the National Archives will enshrine this seminal document for public display adjacent to our nation’s founding documents. Together, they tell a more comprehensive story of the history of all Americans and document progress in our nation’s continuous growth toward a more perfect Union,” she said.”

And this story puts the significance of having the Emancipation Proclamation in situ side-by-side with the others :

We’re far from a perfect union, I get that; our aspirations are greater than our realities. I can feel the  ground shake a little bit; something has shifted. The culture has moved, and though we still have a long way to go, today we moved together into a better future.

It’s a baby step, but it is an important one.
