Haremix – The Harem Records High Energy Classics 1975-1885

I was very old school today.

I realized I didn’t have this on MiniDisc today, so I went real-time recording. It brought me joy.

A Belated Happy Birthday

Long before The Shining, et. al., this is how I became acquainted with Wendy’s work back in my high school years:

BTW, the original soundtrack from The Shining is one of those recordings that was never officially released on CD, and good copies of vinyl on the market are ridiculously expensive:

I had it in my collection back in the day. I wish now it had been among one of the few I’d held on to; not because of the value, but because of the music itself.

Of course, this led me on a search to see if it was available online for download (because I have an incomplete version in iTunes) and I was able to find it. My next MD ripping project… ????

Released 51 Years Ago Today

Damn, I feel old.

Carpenters: Horizon (1974)

What struck me most about this album back in the day was the audio quality. I don’t know what magic the recording engineers used, but Karen’s voice was crystal clear, front and center. It was as if she was on stage right in front of you, and it seemed you could hear every instrument used in the arrangements.

Their take on “Please Mr. Postman” remains one of my favorites.

Grace Jones: Hurricane (2008)

My jury’s still out on this one, nearly twenty years on. It was just so different from her earlier work, and coming after such a long hiatus, it certainly wasn’t what I (or anyone else, for that matter) was expecting. Still, I have a copy in my library, because…well…Grace.
