Interesting all of these… except that the last one is not necessarily true. There are many fly-in only communities in Canada, which don’t directly connect to the highway system. I suspect there may be a few in the U.S. as well, particularly in Alaska.
What I did find fascinating, a few years ago when I found out about it, is that there is no road link between Central and South America.
And yeah… doctors’ appointments sort of lose their lustre after a while.
