AI Slop

AI is getting good. Perhaps too good.

I recently ran across an Instagram account that at first blush looked like a great collection of hot guys. The more I got into it, however, the more I started doubting the images’ authenticity. They were perfect…with one tell. The tattoos on what were otherwise identical models were radically different from image to image—in some cases absent altogether.

Then I went back to the main account and read the description.

But seriously, if I hadn’t noticed the ink, I would’ve blithly continued believing the images were real.

The gentleman in the image above, while not from that particular account, gives me pause as well.

How can we even trust what we see as real/

  1. You’re right. Some of them are already practically indistinguishable, and soon entire films will be indistinguishable from those shot with real actors in real locations. If this issue remained just that, fine, but… what if politicians, the media, the super-rich, and others start using it to “fabricate” their self-serving version, supplanting reality to the point where it’s impossible to tell the difference?

  2. It’s really annoying. There are more than enough hot real men out there, why do people need to waste time & energy on AI slop? And yes, it’s getting harder to filter out the mess. I wish Tumblr would set an ‘AI created’ warning with the zeal they use for their ‘mature content’ wolf cries.
