I miss Tower Records (Market Street, too close to the gym I used to go to, and they were open into the evening), but it was sort of a bad habit when the store was open. Now I have many, many CD’s that I don’t get to hear because of the time of day that I finally get home from work.
So sad, so sad…
I miss that Tower Records! Rooftop parking was horrific but worth the hassle. Used to go to the Columbus store until Market Street opened. I spent so much money there over the years!
I lived in Sacramento during the 70s and 80s.
I remember Tower of Records, Tower of Books, Tower of Shoes, and I think there was a Tower of Clothes.
Loved those stores.
I also liked going to video stores. In the 90s, I lived in Oak Lawn, Dallas, Texas. Down the street from me was a Blockbuster, and on the gay strip was a gay video store. I would go in there on a Friday night and browse the gay selection. Yes, they had a pron section. That never really interested me. If I couldn’t find a gay movie or any of the mainstream choices, I would venture a few blocks over and see what Blockbuster had to offer.
I remember the others. I did visit Circuit City after Best Buy. I wasn’t a Sears man, but I did go to Mervin’s a lot.
