  1. Looks like there is an unfinished basement too (not on the developed plans) – extra kid’s rooms, washer dryer space, maybe the den, dimly lit sometimes by the tiny windows in the foundation. Lots of houses like this where I grew up – the late 40s early 50s developments, plywood cupboards painted white, linoleum countertops with tin edging and coved linoleum in the kitchen and bathroom, the Kelvinator fridge and Crosley range. If you find a mint version, be ready to decorate around the pink or tan bathroom fixtures.
I think the kitchen layout was not intended for a built in dishwasher (eating up too much of the lower cabinet space). However, many boomers grew up in these, and they came out alright….

  2. I can live with the exterior. It really depends on the materials being used. I’ve also always been a little wary of exteriors with those big-ass awnings. It seems like they would make the interior too dark, and I can’t have that. I understand that, back in the day, they served a purpose because of the lack of air conditioning. I’ve seen photos of some of those interiors, and they are so dark you could practically grow mushrooms in them.

I love the vestibule as you enter the home.

I would consider converting one of the first-floor bedrooms into a den—a more secluded space for watching television, movies, or using as an office. I might even try to configure a powder room. Perhaps the bedroom next to the living room could be transformed with a hidden door, like something out of a castle.

Those first-floor bedrooms are a little tight. I don’t need a large bedroom just for sleeping—just enough space for a queen- or king-sized bed, bedside tables with drawers on each side, and room for a comfortable chair. And while we’re at it, let’s bring back those closets with overhead storage, sliding doors, and a built-in dresser for the jockstraps.
