Kind of a Mike Brady design, but, being from that era, I could feel at home there, I think. I bet it was built originally with deluxe textured Formica kitchen counters and golden oak cabinets galore. Maybe deep pile shag carpets with a plastic rake to fluff them up after vacuuming too – something that was great for my OCD tendencies. I think it is a nice looking design, of the era.
Our place had a seafoam green low-pile carpet throughout, with the exception of my room and my sister’s room. She had pink shag, and I had a brown/black/white shag. I remember when we were picking out carpet my first choice was a deep royal blue and my dad said I needed something more masculine, so I went back to the samples and grabbed the first thing that caught my eye. (I ended up painting my bedroom that same royal blue color a couple years later.)
The hard surface floors were vinyl tile embossed with a faux dark brown (almost black) woodgain. My folks discovered this particular tile and installed it in our previous house a few months before we moved, and while it wasn’t part of the builder’s standard offerings, they paid extra to have it installed in the new place.
The kitchen countertops were formica, yes. It was a very subtle random pattern in a “harvest gold” color. The kitchen cabinets were clad in what was called “Spanish oak” at the time (a very dark brown) formica. Appliances were white. Countertops in the bathrooms were beige “cultured marble” and the cabinets were whitewashed oak formica.
