It’s Called KARMA, Bitches!

In case you haven’t heard, someone used AI to vibecode not just Photoshop, but Adobe’s entire Creative Suite of apps, renamed them, and made the lot available for free to whoever wants them.

The question of legality aside, I find it ironic that Adobe—a multi-million dollar company that is one of the biggest offenders of stealing creators’ content to train their AI at the very least—has had the tables turned on them and all of a sudden has had their work snagged by AI.

Did Karma finally wake from her slumber?

I have to admit, it’s pretty damn good! So far, everything I’ve used works the same as it does in Photoshop. This was my biggest stumbling block in switching platforms to a different photo editing/graphics program whenever I’ve wanted to give up on Adobe because of their horrible subscription pricing and policies. I’ve been using Photoshop for the last twenty years, and some tasks have simply become muscle memory at this point. The only thing Photocraft lacks is access to Adobe’s Generative AI, something I use to remove particularly troublesome items from images that I cannot do manually.

ArtCraft is available for Mac, Windows, and Linux.

  1. PS: Of course he was already aware of ArtCraft – the IT guy at the workplace.
While chit-chatting about several things he pointed me to a free utility tool he keeps in his Mac’s Menu Bar: Vorssaint, available at https://vorssaint.com
Neat, totally customizable regarding which of the plentiful options you want it to show in its interface.
But you probably already know about it too 🙂
PPS: sorry to hear about the incident with your backup provider. I don’t know if the email address we provide when commenting here were hacked too, but so far no spam or fishing to report in my batredneck mailbox.

    1. Oh yes! I’ve been using Vorssaint for a few weeks now and I really like what it does.

It doesn’t sound like your email addresses should be involved at all.

  2. This is impressive. And I concur with the guy in the video: using AI to write genuine new code from scratch in order to produce clean and effective software free of licensing fee – such as those available from ArtCraft – is certainly a game-changer (and now undoubtedly a nightmare come true for Adobe’s executives).
I’m not much of an image processing software user myself and, when the need comes up once in a while, I use GIMP.
Now what I also find very interesting is that ArtCraft’s softwares are not only very neat and filled with all the features of their counterparts, they also occupy a fraction of the disk space these latter do. I just installed PhotoCraft (Photoshop) / WordCraft (MS Word) and GridCraft (MS Excel):
    – 182 Mb vs 426 mb for GIMP
    – 203 Mb vs 2,66 Gb for Word
    – 68 Mb vs 2,49 Gb for Excel
453 mb compared with around 5,5 GB for just three programmes, the ratio is staggering. And, cherry on the cake, it also means faster launches and less RAM usage.
Now I’ll have to ‘play’ around a bit with Word/GridCraft to see if they can become reliable replacement for their respective counterparts – Grid already disappoints a bit because it doesn’t import properly .xls files, only .xlsx – but, as these softwares just have just recently been made available, I’m confident future updates will sort things out.
Anyway, thanks a lot for sharing this with us!
(and that’ll make a nice intel to pass on to some of my colleagues next Monday morning, especially the IT guy if not already aware 🙂
    Take good care,
    Laurent
